Engagement Session in Lisbon with Victor Lax

Hi there,

Juan and I got engaged on January 8th, 2018. He surprised me with a candle light installation at home few days after our trip to Galicia to visit my family!

Juan’s original idea was to propose while in Spain, but having little time for ourselves he decided that the perfect time would be at home just the two of us. The night was perfectly planned. I didn’t expect that he was planning on such a surprise. He cover the entire house with candles and white rose petals. When I entered the condo all the lights were off and all I could hear was Bob Marley lyrics in the background (our first date was a Ziggy Marley concert).

As I entered the apartment, I realized this was about to happen and Juan was going to propose. As I followed the path of candles I saw Juan standing in front of an altar made of roses and candle lights, all different sizes in vases full of water, shinning away.

The love of my life was standing in front of me, looking as handsome as he is, wearing his favorite suit, waiting for me to walk in. I was so nervous and at the same time excited, and I could not believe this was my time.

His proposal was the most kind, detailed and emotional speech I’ve ever heard in my life. We were both in tears for a moment. Up until this moment, this was the most romantic gesture anyone had given me. This was a dream and I was in it!

After this stunning, one of a kind proposal I had to surprise Juan with something special. After few months of doing research and knowing how important photography is for both of us; I decided to surprise Juan with an engagement session in Lisbon with our favorite Spanish photographer Victor Lax . I flew Victor from Barcelona to Lisbon for a day and oh boy! we did surprise Juan….

Victor and I, had come up with an idea to surprise Juan. The plan was to meet in the center square of town at a certain time, telling Juan we might take a boat ride from the marina (I believe Juan was not buying it and he knew I was scamming something :). While in the square Victor would play the role of a town photographer who would approach Juan trying to sell him a service. Little did Juan know, the photographer was Victor Lax who we both admire and follow for many years. The best part was when Juan avoid Victor few times until Victor finally confirm who he was! Oh boy did we have some laughs….

The day was all an adventure as neither three of us knew Lisbon. We went to every spot in town under high temperatures, 105F to be more exact!

This was an amazing experience for Juan and I which inspired me to make this a tradition. From this point on, everywhere we travel we schedule a fun photo session with a new photographer in a new place with different style!
